June 13 - June 20 CIT Camp (2 week session)
Many teens and young adults with Asperger’s Syndrome and high functioning autism (HFA) are progressing through mainstream high schools and following a college prep curriculum. Students are usually unable to participate in vocational training during the school day or maintain a part time job due to the stress of dealing with academic expectations and lack of social skills related to the work environment. CIT camp addresses job skills training and social issues facing teens with Asperger’s Syndrome and HFA for rising 9th graders through college age individuals. The program focuses on how to apply for a job, carry out the duties of a job, and practice social and leadership skills needed in a work environment. Practicing social skills taught during the school year and learning vocational skills, teens become more independent and productive citizens.
In addition, the program emphasizes building self-esteem by having the CIT teens explore their strengths through real life experiences during activities that demonstrate individual abilities resulting in success for each teen. Participants will also enjoy the many camp activities such as group games, arts & crafts, and music while making new friends.
